You're just as likely to make that good relic show up in a future shop as you are to "miss" it in the current shop. The relic order is random if you "use up" a good relic by seeing it and not buying it, that's just as bad as if you never see it because it's at the bottom of the list.

Specifically, I derailed the meme thread because sailors in the 18th century weren't woke enough for me, and you shouldn't sing sea shanties. I got this title for the dumbest fucking possible take on sea shanties. fishing for Orange Pellets, you shouldn’t skip a shop because you have no money for fear of locking out Orange Pellets, because the odds are the exact same that you will see orange pellets and be unable to buy as seeing this shop will burn through three of the relic list and make the pellets appear in the final shop. However, I'm not sure if the shop relics are flagged when you see the merchant or actually view the shop.Īs a consequence, if you’re e.g.

From what I understand, the order of relics is predetermined regardless of when you actually view them. I think you will see the relics at a later shop. I think it's safe to say that going to a shop will "use up" those items even if you use the skip button, so even if you're broke you might as well peek inside so you can know which items not to count on later. If you take a route that goes around Shop 1 so that Shop 2 is the first shop you hit, then Shop 2 will have items A, B, and C. If Shop 1 has items A, B, C then Shop 2 will have items D, E, F regardless of whether or not you hit the skip button at Shop 1. I decided to try it out experimentally with a set seed. You could test this by opening up a seed that has some order like shop -> chest -> shop and see what you get in the chest/2nd shop when you skip the first shop I think the shop figures into this, but the rightmost(?) relics are shop relics so I think those are seeded separately from regular relics (but they still go in order, its just you can only see them and affect the order if you visit a shop). So for example, if you skip an elite and open a chest, the chest contains the relic you would have gotten from the elite. The relics are seeded in a certain order from what I've heard. I tend to skip when I’m low on money so I don’t “waste” the relics, is this stupid?

What if I skip the merchant and I don’t “see” it? Is it determined in the seed that a specific relic will show up at a specific merchant? I know that if a relic shows up in the shop and I don’t buy it, it will never show up again during the run. Watcher stands a bit lower but only because she feels more solvable and thus a little easier to win with, so there's less tension in the card choices after the first few, but I still think she's fun.\ Plus, defect has nutty shop relics, which can kind of shift the gameplan a lot, too.įor my part, my favorite character tends to be whoever I'm grinding at the moment of the original 3. Plus, in polls, Defect consistently seems like the favorite character for people, generally speaking. The orbs are a kind of bottleneck early in runs because of the starting deck (in the same way that stance-shifting can be a bottleneck early on for Watcher due to her starting deck), but you can find quite a few cards early that pull you "out" of that exclusive archetype, they just aren't the primary element of design for Defect's playstyle, which I think is fine given that Defect is not the only character in the game. It's ok if it stays how it is tho and he's just relic-dependent.ĭon’t forget about Loop! It effectively functions as a way to get more orb slots, too.įor Defect being the "power card/mage" archetype, he seems strong and varied enough to me. Adding more orb slot makers would enable consume and orb slots imo arent as busted as focus as there isnt immediate payoff. Defragment is so strong that adding anything comparable (especially at common) that it would just get too easy. It's literally only capacitor and relics. I think orb slots are the more severe bottleneck for me.
